The Rwanda Project is an educational initiative that seeks to empower minority and underprivileged communities through a variety of unique and innovative models designed specifically to promote and encourage cross-cultural teaching and learning. In efforts to facilitate the successful implementation of our mission, our initial objective is to conduct resource and needs assessment surveys and improve resource availability. Please, see below a list of our 2020 initiatives.
2020 Initiatives:
Assessment – visiting 9 schools in efforts to evaluate need and gauge resource availability
Library Project – building a reading space and providing reading materials
Playground Project – building, restoring, and renovating playgrounds at partner schools, using only local and recycled materials (in collaboration with Play360)
Reading Hour – Rwandan teachers and community members read books to students in their native language, Kinyarwanda
Bicycles for teachers – purchasing bicycles for teachers who live one or more hours walking distance from school
3D Prosthetic Arms Project – providing 3D prosthetic arms to students with physical disability, annual assessment, repair and/or replacement; collaborating with local organizations for the disabled in order to identify need and provide support; starting a 3D printing program (in collaboration with Jon Racek and 3dprintshop.org)
Teacher Workshops – providing materials and promoting effective skill-building strategies that would allow participants to improve classroom management and teaching techniques
Parent Workshops – providing informational sessions that encourage parents to engage children in active reading and learning at home
